CET 765 Leadership in Technology Change

Peer Mentoring Project with Jill Carlson

For this project I was given the opportunity to be a peer mentor and work along side a fellow teacher in my school district.  As her peer mentor I was able to help her out with incorporating technology into her classroom.  We decided that we would build off of the current plan for her insect unit.  During the unit students will learn to research on chromebooks and ipads; students will be able to use google to search for images.  After Jill and I researched multiple resources to use with the first grade students, we decided that the app Educreations, Explain Everything, and MyOn were the tools our students would use.

By completing this project I have learned a lot about what it takes to teach and assist your peers with incorporating new technologies into their own classrooms.  I will use the skills I learned from this class to help other colleagues with their technology needs.

I have included both the peer mentoring journal, as well as a few of the projects our students created.

The goals and objectives met by this project include:

  • understand the capabilities of the computer, its impact on education, business, industry and government; and will be able to adapt to, understand, evaluate, and make use of new and emerging innovations in computer and information technology

  • be aware of current trends and issues in computer education, distance education, electronic communications, computer hardware and software;

  • apply learning theory and the principles of instructional design in curricular and instructional decision-making;

  • demonstrate proficiency using computers and related technologies in instruction;

  • demonstrate proficiency in teaching and assessing others in the use of computers and related technologies in a variety of educational settings.

  • current in teaching and learning processes and practices;

  • knowledgeable of current, technology-based educational tools and products.
