The MSET courses have allowed me to pursue my passion of technology in the classroom.  I have learned about a vast array of tools that I have been able to incoporate in my classroom.  Listed below are projects that I have completed in multiple MSET courses that show my learning and how I have used a variety of the web 2.0 tools in a meaningful way.

Here are the program goals and objectives that I have met by these projects:

  • be proficient in the use and application of computer software;

  • be aware of current trends and issues in computer education, distance education, electronic communications, computer hardware and software;

  • apply learning theory and the principles of instructional design in curricular and instructional decision-making;

  • demonstrate proficiency using computers and related technologies in instruction;

  • demonstrate proficiency in teaching and assessing others in the use of computers and related technologies in a variety of educational settings.

  • knowledgeable of emerging technologies; and

  • knowledgeable of current, technology-based educational tools and products.

  • current in teaching and learning processes and practices;

CET 751 Computer Hardware and Networking Essentials

This course provided me with the opportunity to study computer hardware and networks that have been used and currently are being used in the educational setting.  This was a fun course for me because I was able to go stay on campus for a week and get some hands-on learning done about a topic I didn't know much about prior to this course.  Two of the hights of the week on campus were having the opportunity to tour the DSU campus and working on labs during our class time. Before taking CET 751, my knowledge of how computer hardware worked was pretty slim.  However, after I completed the course I felt more confident in knowing how computers and networks actually worked.

Below is a link that will allow you to view my final project for this course.  I was able to research the "Security on Laptops, Portable Devices, and Handheld Devices".  I choose this topic specifically because it's extremely important to me that our students know and understand the dangers of the world wide web.  Even in my first grade classroom, I teach students that not everything found on the internet is good.

CET 720 Evaluating Technology Outcomes

The Evaluating Technology Outcomes course has been beneficial to me by allowing me to learn how to evaluate schools technology plans.  During this course we were provided the opportunity to look at both good and bad components of a schools technology plan.  For the final project in this course we were able to evaluate a school districts technology plan, we were given Tripp-Delmont School Disctrict.  Our group worked collaboratively through google docs to compose our evaluation.

CET 726 Technology in Curriculum

One of the projects that I completed in CET 726 was creating a lesson plan for a Flipped Classroom.  As more school districts are incorporating technology into the K-12 buildings, flipped classrooms are starting to become a norm.  The lesson plan that I created was planned for my 1st grade classroom, teaching about the lifecyle of the butterfly.

Another project that I completed in Technology in Curriculum was created a concept map of an online portfolio.  I was tasked with fnding different technology tools for the following categories: setting objectives; identifying similarities & differences; nonlinguistic representations; cooperative learning & reinforcing effort; reinforcing effort & providing feedback; homework & practice; Cues, questions, and advanced organizers.  This was a great project for me to learn about a lot of new web 2.0 tools that I have not used in my classroom prior to the course.
