Distance education has been part of my life for many years, I have taken online classes for nearly 6 years.  Through many of these courses in the MSET program I have learned different ways to effectively prepare, design, and teach online courses.  Even though at the elementary level I do not forsee online teaching & distance education as the way to go with such young students, I would like to teach online classes through the local community college.  The knowledge that I have gained from the following courses and the projects from these courses are evidence of my learning.

Below are projects that met the goals and objectives from the MSET program.  Listed below are the following goals & objectives.

  • understand the capabilities of the computer, its impact on education, business, industry and government; and will be able to adapt to, understand, evaluate, and make use of new and emerging innovations in computer and information technology;

  • use systematic problem-solving and research-based human/computer interaction practices in the development of computer-assisted instructional programs;

  • be aware of current trends and issues in computer education, distance education, electronic communications, computer hardware and software;

  • be proficient in finding, evaluating, and using current educational research to support continuous improvement in their profession;

  • knowledgeable of current, technology-based educational tools and products.

  • current in teaching and learning processes and practices;

  • current in research technologies and instructional programming skills

LT 712 Principles of Learning for Instructional Technology

The LT 712 course allowed me to collaborate with a partner about different online learning environments.  Our group choose to evaluate Edmodo in the area of 21st century learning skills.

CET 769 Adult Learning for Distance Education

This course allowed me to examine multiple approaches and theories in correspondence to adult learning.  For my final paper in CET 769 I choose to compare Gagne's 9 Events of instruction to adult learning in distance education.  Gagne's 9 Events of instruction include: gain attention, inform learners of objectives, stimulate recall of prior learning, present the content, providing learning guidance, elicit performance, provide feedback, assess performance, and enhance retention and transfer to the job.

LT 741 Intro to Distance Education

This course allowed me to dig deeper into what it means to be a distance education student.  I was taught different teaching strategies on how to deal with issues that may arise in the online learning environment.  I have attached my position paper for LT 741--in my position paper I express the importance and great opportunities that online technology tools have on elementary students learning.
